• Eisenhower, Dwight David (Ike) Эйзенхауэр, Дуайт Дэвид ( Айк) (1890—1969), 34- й президент США (1953—61), от Респ. партии. Главнокомандующий войсками союзников в Западной Европе (1943—45), руководил их высадкой в Нормандии в день «Д» [D-Day] 6 июня 1944. После войны (1950—52) создавал вооружённые силы НАТО. В 1952 его популярность была столь велика, что и демократы, и республиканцы хотели выдвинуть его на пост президента. Он предпочёл республиканцев. Избирательная кампания проходила под лозунгом «Мне нравится Айк» [‘I Like Ike']. Одержал победу на выборах в 1952 и 1956 гг. Во время его президентства была прекращена война в Корее.
